Lena's latest project is a series produced by HBO and based on the American fantasy author G. R. R. Martin's book series A Song of Ice and Fire. The series is titled Game of Thrones like the first novel it should be based on. The author has already written four books and three more are planned and HBO's intention is to follow closely the book plots, so that each season of the show should show the events narrated in a single book. Lena plays one of the main characters, Cersei Lannister, the Queen of the House of Lannister married to King Robert played by British actor Mark Addy. Cersei also has a twin brother Jamie, played by Danish actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and an older brother, Tyrion, played by Peter Dinklage, who already starred with Lena in the pilot Ultra in 2006 which unfortunately didn't make it to the tv screens. Also starring in this series is Sean Bean, who plays Ned Stark.
Lena's character Cersei is something different from what she has done before, she's one of the villains, although a complex character with a lot of nuances that has been described as a woman "who is every bit as smart, cunning and devious as the powerful men around her."
Lena's casting as Cersei was first announced exclusively by Mo Ryan on The Chicago Tribune on September, 1st 2009. The pilot was shot in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Morocco.
The series will premiere on HBO on April, 17.
