The Purge

The Purge, originally titled 'Vigilandia', stars Ethan Hawke as James Sandin and Lena Headey as his wife, Mary.
What if on one night each year, you could commit any crime without consequence? The Purge presents a vision of the near future in which rampant violence and prison overcrowding has led the U.S. government to impose strict martial law over the population. As a social experiment, the authoritarian regime (which calls itself the New Founding Fathers of America) decides to sanction one 12-hour period each year during which anything is legal—even murder. During these 12 hours there are no police, no hospitals, no government help whatsoever. The Purge examines just how far one family will go to protect themselves during one of these terrifying nights.
Click on Rebecca Wang Entertainment to read the whole article. The Purge hits theaters May 31st 2013.

Update: Eagle eyed Lena fans have spoken… This IS NOT a picture from the movie The Purge. Its actually from La femme du Vème [The Woman In The Fifth] (2011) starring Ethan Hawke & Kristin Scott Thomas. I want to send out a very Special Thanks to Emanuela Vergari and Un Caimano Nel Soggiorno for catching the mistake!

Game Of Thrones Season 3: Lena's Back To Work

Sept. 26: Here's a quick video of Lena Headey, Peter Dinklage, David Benioff, and D.B. Weiss arriving in Dubrovnik, Croatia to start filming the third season of Game of Thrones.

Hmm, is that a yoga mat in Lena's backpack? No wonder she looked so good in that black Armani gown at the Emmys!
                                    *******************************************
Sept. 27: Lena Headey, Peter Dinklage, Aidan Gillen arrived on set of third season Game of Thrones in Dubrovnik, Croatia.

Hmm...stair climbing in heels, a corset, and that dress... Another clue as to how Lena managers to look so fit! And the lady sitting on the bench watching Lena, I can hear her laughing from here! She's saying, "I feel your pain, sister. But, You Go Girl!!"
(The person who had this bright idea, should be shot! Or better yet, dress them in the same outfit and make them walk up those steps 50 times.)

Lena, Congrats on 20 yrs in Showbiz!

(click on or under the picture to enlarge)

On August 21, 1992, Lena's first movie 'Waterland' was released in UK theaters.

Plot:
Waterland follows the story of a mentally anguished high school history teacher (Tom Crick/Jeremy Irons) going through a complete reassessment of his life. His method for reassessing his life is to narrate it to his class and interweave in it three generations of his family's history. The movie portrays the teacher's narrative in the form of flashbacks to tell the story of a teenage boy and his mentally challenged older brother living on the fens of England with their widowed father. The entire movie is motivated by an opening scene in which the history teacher's barren wife (Mary Crick/Sinead Cusack) steals a child from a supermarket and believes it to be hers. The teacher explains to his class how he and his wife carried out a teenage romance which led to a disastrous abortion that mutilated the girl's womb and left her infertile. (Young Mary/Lena Headey & Young Tom/Grant Warnock) The teacher is tortured by the guilt of this act as well as the jealousy he demonstrated to his older brother when he suspected his girlfriend's child was that of his brother. The girlfriend explains that the child cannot be that of the mentally challenged brother because his penis was of such enormousness that it could not fit into her despite several attempts. The girlfriend's flirtation with the older brother sets off events that lead to the older brother's suicide by drowning. A side-theme throughout the narration is of the teacher's grandfather, who was a successful brewer and who fathered with his daughter the narrator's older brother, thus accounting for the older brother's genetic difficulties. The movie ends with the teacher's dismissal from his school and a possible renewal of his relationship with his wife.

The movie also starred Ethan Hawke, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Pete Postlethwaite, and John Heard.

Lena News: Video Game, DREDD, + Mortal Instruments' Website

Lena voices the character of Calista in the video game 'Dishonored'.

(and yes, Todd Kenreck mispronounced Headey... *face palm*)
What is 'Dishonored'? Check out the video games' trailer...
Dishonored casts you as a supernatural assassin driven by revenge. You are the once-trusted bodyguard of the beloved Empress. Framed for her murder, you become an infamous assassin, known only by the disturbing mask that has become your calling card. In a time of uncertainty, when the city is being besieged by plague and ruled by an oppressive government armed with strange technologies, dark forces conspire to bestow upon you abilities beyond those of any common man.
In Dishonored, creatively eliminate your targets with the flexible combat system as you combine the numerous supernatural abilities, weapons and unusual gadgets at your disposal. Pursue your enemies under the cover of darkness or ruthlessly attack them head on with weapons drawn. The outcome of each mission plays out based on the choices you make.

Keeping an eye out for the Emmy announcement...
Lenaholics aren't the only people hoping against hope that Lena will get an Emmy nomination. Many critics & TV journalist are wondering too. Here's just one sample from The Playlist:
-- but she's really shown her strengths as Cersei Lannister, the manipulative, Machiavellian Queen, and in the more recent second season, widow and semi-regent, of Westeros. Cersei has, almost from the off, been one of the most obviously unsympathetic characters on the show, but as time has gone on, Headey has brought all kinds of texture to the part; the incestuous, murderous villain who betrayed Ned Stark is also an exploited woman, married off to a man who never loved her, and a mother increasingly discovering that the son she sacrificed so much for is a monster beyond anything she could have imagined. And Headey has palpably relished the material, especially now she has Dinklage as an on-screen sparring partner; their scenes together were some of the finest on the show. Between those and Cersei's spectacular drunken meltdown during the battle of the Blackwater, she's quietly creating one of the most memorable and complex villains in television history.

Dredd Poster

Here's the full synopsis:
The future America is an irradiated wasteland. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called "Judges" who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge - a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of "Slo-Mo" experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.
During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan's inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound's control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

There hasn't been a trailer released yet but with a theater date set for September, there's still time. If I were a betting person I'd say 'Dredd' is waiting for Comic-Con in July to make its big marketing push. And because a  lot of people have short attention spans, and marketing campaigns are expensive, they may save the heavy hitting for later in the summer.

You can follow the updates at their official website Dredd, on Dredd's Facebook page, and at Lionsgate.com.

Hopefully there'll be a Ma-Ma poster. But if not, well, we'll just have to make one...

HBO's Game Of Thrones Emmy Submissions

HBO has officially submitted the following Game Of Thrones' actor's names for consideration in the categories of Outstanding Supporting Actor/Actress In A Drama Series:
Game Of Thrones: Actress:
Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen)
Michelle Fairley (Catelyn Stark)
Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister)
Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark)
Maisie Williams (Arya Stark)

Game Of Thrones: Actors:
Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy)
Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) *Last year's winner.
Kit Harington (Jon Snow)
Richard Madden (Robb Stark)

As well as Game Of Thrones for Outstanding Drama Series. *Last year it lost to Mad Men.

This year it looks like HBO has learned from the mistakes it made last year. So far, they have not made any submissions for Game Of Thrones in the category of Outstanding Lead Actor/Actress In A Drama Series. If you remember, last year they submitted Sean Bean & Lena Headey to be considered in these categories. And if you watched the show, you know that no one actor had enough screen time to really be considered in the Lead category. Maybe this time around Lena, and everyone else, will have a better shot at getting nominated.

More Upcoming Movies For Lena

The latest news out about Lena's future film projects has her co-starring with Emily Watson & Anna Friel in Jon Amiel’s 'The Poisoners'.
Synopsis:
The Poisoners, a dark comedy about women left behind in an English farming community during World War I who become involved with several German prisoners-of-war.

More to look forward to...
Lena has been tapped to voice the lead character, Sela Mathers, in Zenoscope Entertainment's animated series based on its popular comic 'Grimm Fairy Tales'. The comic series, which launched in 2005, revolves around reinventions of classic fairy tales with modern twists and extended plots and centers on Sela, a literature professor who has been given the ability to affect people's lives by teaching them morality lessons through fairy tales.

And, to state the obvious, HBO has renewed 'Game Of Thrones' for a third season.

So, yippee-yahoo-hooray!!! Lots more Lena on the horizon.

L.A. Times + NY Daily News + Jimmy Kimmel Live

Here is a great article by Geoff Boucher in the L.A. Times titled 'Game of Thrones' duo: 'Anxiety and insomnia but no complacency', that is full of LenaLove! Its actually more of a part 2 of his earlier Lena article, ‘Game of Thrones’ queen: Lena Headey lights it up in dark role.
DB: We never thought of Cersei as a particularly funny character until Lena read for the part. We had seen a number of excellent actresses, but everyone had interpreted the character as an emotionless ice queen. Lena took her in a different, stranger and more interesting direction. In her hands, Cersei embodies endless contradictions. The queen can seem both ruthless and fragile, often in the same scene. She can exhibit extreme cruelty but also utter devotion to her own children. And she’s damn funny, which is no surprise if you know Lena.

Click here to read the entire interview with David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the writer-producers of HBO’s Game Of Thrones.

There's a short article/interview with Lena in the New York Daily News titled, Actress Lena Headey, star of "Game of Thrones," says she's not evil like her character Cersei

Fans seem to hold a grudge: there's even a Facebook group called "I think Cersei Lannister needs her head lopped off."

It's even gone sour at San Diego ComicCon, the annual mecca for geeks where Headey was once treated as a conquering hero as the (good) queen from "300" and then as the titular Terminator-killer in the television series, "The Sarah Connor Chronicles".

"I was sitting between (Peter) Dinklage and Emilia (Clarke), who are the most beloved characters on the show, I literally just got ignored," she says of her visit last summer. "People were giving Pete the books to sign and they kept moving away from me as if I was going to curse them."
