The Purge

The Purge, originally titled 'Vigilandia', stars Ethan Hawke as James Sandin and Lena Headey as his wife, Mary.
What if on one night each year, you could commit any crime without consequence? The Purge presents a vision of the near future in which rampant violence and prison overcrowding has led the U.S. government to impose strict martial law over the population. As a social experiment, the authoritarian regime (which calls itself the New Founding Fathers of America) decides to sanction one 12-hour period each year during which anything is legal—even murder. During these 12 hours there are no police, no hospitals, no government help whatsoever. The Purge examines just how far one family will go to protect themselves during one of these terrifying nights.

Update: Eagle eyed Lena fans have spoken… This IS NOT a picture from the movie The Purge. Its actually from La femme du Vème [The Woman In The Fifth] (2011) starring Ethan Hawke & Kristin Scott Thomas. I want to send out a very Special Thanks to Emanuela Vergari and Un Caimano Nel Soggiorno for catching the mistake!

Dredd Poster

Here's the full synopsis:
The future America is an irradiated wasteland. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called "Judges" who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge - a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of "Slo-Mo" experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.
During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan's inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound's control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

There hasn't been a trailer released yet but with a theater date set for September, there's still time. If I were a betting person I'd say 'Dredd' is waiting for Comic-Con in July to make its big marketing push. And because a  lot of people have short attention spans, and marketing campaigns are expensive, they may save the heavy hitting for later in the summer.

You can follow the updates at their official website Dredd, on Dredd's Facebook page, and at Lionsgate.com.

Hopefully there'll be a Ma-Ma poster. But if not, well, we'll just have to make one...

Vigilandia plot revealed???

Bloody-disgusting.com is reporting plot details for Lena's new movie, 'Vigilandia'.

The sci-fi thriller takes place in a future where a new regime, called "New Founding Fathers of America", seek to control an epidemic of violence and crime with an experiment called "The Cure". The Cure is a completely hypocritical "event" where, three times a year, for 12 hours, murder is completely legal. The film is said to play like a home invasion film with a heavy political theme.
Filming is currently underway in Los Angeles.

Update: Movie Name Change
The title for the movie 'Vigilandia' has been changed to 'The Purge'. And the official synopsis has been released.
The Plot:
"If on one night every year, you could commit any crime without facing consequences, what would you do? In The Purge, a speculative thriller that follows one family over the course of a single night, four people will be tested to see how far they will go to protect themselves when the vicious outside world breaks into their home. In an America wracked by crime and overcrowded prisons, the government has sanctioned an annual 12-hour period in which any and all criminal activity-including murder-becomes legal. The police can't be called. Hospitals suspend help. It's one night when the citizenry regulates itself without thought of punishment. On this night plagued by violence and an epidemic of crime, one family wrestles with the decision of who they will become when a stranger comes knocking. When an intruder breaks into James Sandin's (Ethan Hawke) gated community during the yearly lockdown, he begins a sequence of events that threatens to tear a family apart. Now, it is up to James, his wife, Mary (Lena Headey), and their kids to make it through the night without turning into the monsters from whom they hide."

The Purge will be released in theaters on May 13th, 2013.
